Awww Sh|t.

Tuesday, July 26th, 2005

Work is going to change right around the time I get back. Quite possibly rather radically, but I can’t determine how good or bad the outcome might be. Hard to read the few tea leaves that are available, and the ones I do have are already confusing enough. Since it’s already past the point where I can do anything proactive anyway, better just to ride this one out from a distance.

Update: The question that needs to asked - does anyone have bigger brass ones than bcmcg?

Another Update: Big meeting today. Thinking 60 day holding pattern. We’ll know in a couple of hours.

Another Update: Ah, more questions came out of the meeting than were answered. Not packing my bags anytime soon however.

Motivation Strikes

In the form of a neighbor who got out of his car and flagged me down while I was mowing my lawn to tell me he saw the article. I’ve never met the guy before, but he sure as hell made my day. Apparently I look so much different that he and his wife thought R had a new man in her life. Since he had to stop and talk to me, I had to get off my ass and scan the thing as I’ve been promsing to do so for a month.

The article was mailed to just about every address in NOLA and on the Northshore, so a few people have recognized me. It’s nice, but I must admit, it’s a little uncomfortable hearing people tell me how much better I look - I understand that they are not saying that I used to look awful, but still.

It took almost two months after I was interviewed for the article to be published, so I actually lost more weight and started maintaining in earnest be the time it came out. Sorry about the cropping, my scanner is only 8.5 by 11. I’ll try and find the original ‘after’ photo for an update to this posting.

Blue State Bound

For the first time in two years I’ll be getting on an airplane. Interesting only because for a time [like over two fsking years] I got on an airplane almost every week. W is pretty intrigued to see “where daddy used to go” as we’ll have to stopover in ORD, quite possibly the worst airport ever and a place where I spent far too much time waiting for stuff to happen. [How UAL won the ontime departure award in 2003 is totally beyond me - the flight on Thursdays from ORD to PWM did not leave on time one single time from January through March 2003. I know, I was there.]

It’s going to be an interesting little trip. My parents, who have been divorced since the 80’s now live in the same condo project about ten doors apart. A big percentage of my current family have never seen me this thin - and the rest haven’t seen me like this since 1985-86. Hell, I’m even going to Quassy!

Made The Ride Over The Bridge Go By Fast

Hear about this listening to a Nightline podcast coming home from work yesterday.

Dave Shaw | Outside Online

At the bottom of the biggest underwater cave in the world, diving deeper than almost anyone had ever gone, Dave Shaw found the body of a young man who had disappeared ten years earlier. What happened after Shaw promised to go back is nearly unbelievable—unless you believe in ghosts.

And Be A Spin Slut, You’ll Love It

Monday, July 18th, 2005

So my gym has a little challenge during the Tour De France - take 20 spin classes during the 22 days of the Tour. Did number 20 today, in 16 days. That includes missing a couple of days while T was in the hospital, so really 20 in 14.

If only the stoner teenagers a the front desk could get me my tshirt.
