From a mailing list I'm on. I know neither the guy who posted to the listserv nor the dude who made the slideshow.
Those of you not fortunate enough to attend the Fest this year have been curious as to what New Orleans looks like, how are the people and what did the Fairgrounds look like. The small part of the city that most of us ran amok in was relatively pristine compared to the total devastation experienced in the other 80% of the city. That any American city, let alone the most culturally and historically significant city in the nation, can look like this so many months after a disaster of biblical proportion is shameful. The total lack of concern visited on New Orleans by our government is criminal. The one thing that rocked my soul more than any other last weekend was the incredible grace and humility with which the native New Orleanians received their visitors last weekend. They waved and they smiled and they embraced us. Not harsh word nor a word of expectation or entitilement was spoken. Our taxi drivers native to the city were a very special bunch. They were always ready with a smile, a food tip or a joke and it breaks my heart that our country has turned it's back on them and their city. We are a better People and a greater nation than our government has demonstrated in it's shameful ignorance of New Orleans.
I do not know Rob Rueteman. My friend who passed this on to me assures me that it is his desire that this photo show be shared with as many people as possible so pass it on. And when you have done so, think about what you can do to wake up your friends, neighbors, families and, most all your federal representatives, to the ongoing tragedy that is overtaking New Orleans.
